Who Can Buy Cannabis Products in Canada?
Anyone who is at least 18 years old can buy dried or fresh cannabis, cannabis oil, and other cannabis products from a provincially-licensed retailer . All you need is proof of age to access cannabis retailers and make a purchase. You don’t need to be a resident of Canada to purchase legal cannabis; your passport is accepted as a proof of age. However, individual provinces and territories may have their own overriding rules. Check your local laws before attempting to purchase cannabis products.
The current regulations for medical cannabis will continue to allow access to cannabis for people who have the authorization of their healthcare provider.
Where Can I Get Cannabis Products?
Under the Cannabis Act, adults aged 18 and over can purchase cannabis products from approved stores operating throughout Canada. Although the national government has set guidelines for distribution and sale of cannabis, local laws may vary.
According to the Canadian government’s website, provinces and territories will have ultimate control over how cannabis is distributed and sold in their locals. Provinces and territories will have the ability to set rules around, how cannabis can be sold, where stores may be located, and how stores must be operated.
Provinces and territories will also have the flexibility to set added restrictions, including lowering possession limits, increasing the minimum age, restricting where cannabis may be used in public, and setting added requirements on personal cultivation.
You’ll want to check your local provincial or territorial cannabis regulations for more details. You can find these local laws below.

What Types of Products are Available?
Customers can purchase dried or fresh cannabis flower or cannabis oil products like capsules, liquids, and sprays with no more than 10 mg of cannabinoids per serving. Although product options are limited for now, the government plans to make cannabis edibles and concentrates legal within the first year of operation, opening the door for products like vape pens and tasty cannabis-infused treats down the road.
The government has not published average prices for legal cannabis products in Canada, though prices may increase with to legalization due to concerns over taxes and licensing fees. In the grey market, prices of cannabis flower and its derivatives fluctuated by up to 35% depending on location and brand.
You can legally purchase and possess in public up to 30 grams of dried cannabis flower or its equivalent in non-dried forms. According to the Cannabis Act, one gram of dried cannabis is equal to:
- 5 grams of fresh cannabis
- 15 grams of edible product
- 70 grams of liquid product
- 0.25 grams of concentrates (solid or liquid)
- 1 cannabis plant seed
Real Scientific® offers two distinct brands – Real Scientific Hemp Oil™ and Real Scientific Cannabis Oil™. The primary difference between these two brands is THC and CBD content and the source of the cannabis oil itself.
What is the Difference Between THC and CBD?
The active chemical compounds in cannabis are called cannabinoids. The two most prominent cannabinoids are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). While CBD and THC are both present in the cannabis plant, THC is found in higher levels in marijuana, while CBD is more dominant in the hemp plant.
Both CBD and THC provide their effects by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, but they do so in different ways. THC interacts with the body’s CB1 receptor, found in the central nervous system. CBD interacts with the CB2 receptor, found throughout the peripheral nervous system.
THC is popular for recreational use due to its psychoactive effects. CBD, on the other hand, is popular for its wellness effects. Typically, cannabis products will be available in either CBD or THC. However, some products contain a blend of both THC and CBD in varying ratios.
Want a product with CBD? Real Scientific Hemp Oil™ (RSHO™) offers full-spectrum hemp oil products that contain high levels of CBD, as well as the same nutrients, terpenes, and other cannabinoids also found in the natural hemp plant.
RSHO™ offer capsules and liquids in three label options: Green, Blue, and Gold. Green label RSHO™ uses raw hemp oil that preserves the plant’s natural chemical composition, including levels of CBD and CBDa. Blue label RSHO™ uses decarboxylated hemp oil, which maximizes the amount of CBD in our Blue label products. Finally, Gold label RSHO™ uses hemp oil that has been decarboxylated and put through an additional filtration process that removes the hemp oil’s excess plant material and waxes for a refined, golden colored oil. RSHO™ products are available in liquids or capsules.
Our RSHO™ CBD liquids come in 50 ml bottles with 500 mg of total cannabinoids, providing 50 servings of 10 mg of CBD. RSHO™ capsules come in packs of 10 or 30 and have 10 mg of CBD per capsule. Both RSHO™ liquids and capsules are sold in our Green, Blue, and Gold labels.
Looking for a THC product? Real Scientific Cannabis Oil™ products are formulated with high THC cannabis oil derived from either sativa or indica marijuana plants. The oil is then extracted by our expert lab technicians and formulated into our line of THC products.
RSCO™ products are available as cannabis oil drops, sprays, and capsules. Both our sprays and drops come in 30 ml packages with 90 servings of 10 mg of THC. RSCHO™ capsules come in packs of 10 or 30 capsules. Our capsules are available in 5 mg and 10 mg sizes.
